The Last post :)

Hi there Blogheads:) Today you have to write a 250 word post. Don't forget to comment on my blog and on the blogs of at least 3 classmates! Here’s mineSo, a couple of weeks ago I went to Blondie. Although I like to listen to some of the music they usually play there, it's not the music I like to dance to - I prefer to dance to House, Soul or Reggae or Drum & Bass even Salsa or Cumbia but not rock music. This time I went to Blondie because I went to see a group called CocoRosie. It was a great gig, quite strange and whacky but very enjoyable. CocoRosie is two sisters, a pianist/keyboard player and a human beatbox. The sound is quite original as the band mix different styles such as electronic, folk and hip-hop. There were elements of performance to the show. The band swapped instruments and clothes. They also painted each other’s faces while they were performing. Original the concert was going to be in Subterraneo in Providencia but I think they sold too many tickets and had to switch the concert to a bigger venue. Blondie was a good place to see this band. There can't have been more that 1,000 people and there were only about 600 when the show started. The sound was good. In fact, I enjoyed CocoRosie more live than the recorded tracks I've heard. The personalities and energy of the 2 singers is an important part of their charm and it's hard to feel this from their recordings.
It is important to mention I was introduced to this band thanks to a student whom I saw at the XX concert. Then, he mentioned these guys and I liked the sound.
Here's a link to one of their songs.

Write about a memorable concert, gig or exhibition you've been to this year.
Where was it?
Who were you with?

What was special about it?
Include any other ideas worth mentioning

A TV show I am going to talk about first is Candy.

I started watching it as a child from about 8 years old. I remember both my sisters loved it so I just sat with them and it was all good. It is about this blond girl with very big (not surprising now!) green eyes. I remember it was a very dramatic Japanese Anime. “Candy” was an orphan girl who was adopted and treated badly. Moreover she falls in love with this amazingly handsome character “Anthony” (I fell in love, too!) and he dies!! Yes, he dies!! I suffered so much.  Later she moves to London and meets “Terri” who is the opposite of Anthony (the latter is rebellious). The thing is this love is not meant to be and they keep splitting because he wants to become an actor.
I think it was on every evening for around half an hour.
I suppose I enjoyed it because it was full of adventures and things seemed pretty exciting, but mostly because I would sit there with my sisters and we would drink our milk and eat toast on those evenings while watching the show. I couldn’t wait for the next day to come. Just to watch it again! I know it is very "ñoño" to write about this but I couldn't think of anything apart from "erase una vez el hombre" which seemed a bit serious for children...
What about you?

Write about a TV programme you enjoyed watching when you were a child:
Say:
What it was called,
What it was about,
When it was on,
Why you enjoyed it.
Mention anything else you think is important. Write at least 220 words.
Leave a comment on your classmates' blogs.

2013.
What about it?
Has it been a good year so far? Hard answer but, I think so.  It started very hectic (as usual!) with essays to submit in February in the UK. After that very stressful period, I had a good ten-day vacation with my family (which is always nice) in Uruguay and a couple of days at the beach here. After that, I can say it has been a pretty good year. I have had a lot of work (especially in the area of studies) I somehow fell behind with my studies in April and found it really difficult to catch up. I suppose that is something that definitely didn’t go well. Therefore, I was very stressed in August and September but after that it has been good. I have started reading more novels, playing the guitar a little (this is something I should do more!), listening to more music and watching a lot more movies. I suppose my biggest achievements have been spiritual because I have done more meditation and yoga. That really makes me happy. Bit to highlight, a trip to Machu Picchu in October, which was beautiful. I had been there in 2000 but now I visited Cusco with my mother and I really enjoyed that. I am sure she did too and that really made me happy. I have enjoyed my work as I normally do. So all in all 2013 has been a good year so far.
What about you?

Write about:
> Good things that have happened in your life
> Situations that did not go so well
> Your achievements in 2013
> Things you did not do / have not done yet / still have to do this year
> Important news / event you would like to highlight
> Any other comments

As published on September the 5,   the marking for the blog activities is.

When you come to class and do the post and comments in class, you get 2 points.

When you don’t come to class and do the post and comments within 48 hours, you get 1 point.

No post, no points.

The final mark for the blog consists of two marks.

1 mark for “coming to class and do the blog post and comments in class”

1 mark for 3 particular blog posts. These will be selected and marked considering linguistic aspects.
I've had lots of pets in my time. The pet I have at the moment is Kat. We got him from a neighbour who found him as a kitten. He had been abandoned and attacked by dog, and had a bad paw, one closed eye and a crooked tail.
At the time we lived in a flat so I was reluctant to bring an animal to live there but I felt sorry for the poor thing. So, Kat has been with us for about 13 or 14 years now. He's a bit of an oddball but I think it's because he doesn't realise that he's a cat. He has no social skills when mixing with other animals and spends a lot of time meowing to us to do things for him (usually to give him food but also to open the door or close the door or give him water or let him sit on our lap). He used to do tricks when he was younger but nowadays he spends most of his time sleeping and eating. For a long time he didn't leave the flat because he had a fear of going outside. However, since we moved home about 8 years ago he's been going out most evenings for a couple of hours. He chases other cats and can be quite sneaky (he hides behind a bush and ambushes other cats from the neighbourhood!). Kat loves eating, rolling in the dirt, and getting under my feet. He's a bit of a strange animal and I think he thinks I'm his mum!

Green

I don’t think I am a particularly “Green person”, I think I am  “greener” than the average Chilean person, but not as Eco- friendly as I could be.
This idea of being “green” is so relative. I think it is very difficult to be all “planet friendly” when the whole system invites you to buy and dispose.  I love visiting new places, and basically this is what I spend most of my savings on. Do I pay to try to reduce my carbon footprint? So far, not a bean L Shame on me!!!

On the upside, I try to use the bike as often as possible. I also take bottles and cartons of milk to the supermarket as often as possible. But I normally go by car!!! I separate the rubbish and feed my worms with the degradable stuff. The other thing I do is I put a bottle in my toilet cistern so I use less water when I flush the loo.  When I go to the supermarket or the vegetable market I take my own bags. I make my own washing detergent which pollutes the water and my skin a lot less than Ariel or any of those. I make my shampoo and sometimes soap but it is not easy to find the time. I reuse and recycle as much as I remember. I have learnt from lovely people wanting to share and also out of my own curiosity, I suppose.
There is no way for things to improve in this aspect without education. I think the boroughs i.e. (Estación central, Recoleta, Ñuñoa, etc.) and the national  School programmes need to include the topics of recycling reusing and reducing so people become aware. One needs to do these things at home for children to become aware. I would like to join an organization or create an NGO one day.

What about you?

- Where do people learn about enviromentally friendly practices?
- Have you incorporated recycling into your habits? Describe
- Do you use a bike or your legs instead of a car?
- Have you joined or supported any eco-organisations? Why/Why not?
- What else have you done /would you like to do?
- What have you done to reduce your carbon footprint?
- What's missing in our society/Santiago regarding this issue?

This week's post

Hi everyone:
I'd like to talk about a good friend of mine. I met Ivonne in around 2000 because she was a my sister's classmate at Uni and they were pretty close. Later, my sister left to live in the UK and I didn't see Ivonne again until around 2005. I am not sure how we got in touch again but I am glad we did because I feel she is really nice company. I like talking to her about anything because most of the time she has wise words to tell me. Plus, she has a great sense of humor and is a very active woman.
I'd say we have various things in common. We like music and arts in general, and we share our sense of humor & love for animals. We don't eat them! I really enjoy our evening meetings to have a drink and play music. Ivonne plays the guitar magnificently and can pick like few people I have met. But she is very humble about her guitar playing and that is nice too.
She is a lawyer, but one of the smart ones who will always tell you about the details of the legal actions you take. Furthermore, most of the time she knows what is going on with the laws they will pass or if they already passed them and how they affect us. It is a pity we only see each other 3 or 4 times a year.

Write about a good friend of yours:
Say:
Who it is,
How you met,
What things you have in common,
How often you see your friend.
Put up a picture if you like (Mine is pending!)
Write at least 230 words. Leave a comment on 4 classmates' blogs .

language transformed humanity

Hello everyone:
Have a listen to this talk on how language became what it is and how it has evolved and what Mr. Pagel sees as the inevitable future.
Use the headphones.

Think about what Pagel says and develop your thoughts on this topic. Write what you feel about what he says on the origin of language, on how it has evolved, on what he foresees as the future of language.

How do you feel about your language? How do you relate it to your identity as an individual and as a Chilean?

Write a minimum of 240 words and 4 comments in total.

tiqui tiqui ti

Since this is an anthropology language class, I will begin today’s post with an idea of Manilowski that relates to language. He argued that you cannot understand the meaning of what someone says or writes unless you know something about the context in which it is embedded.  I could not agree more, context is vital, and this is why I thought today we could refer to ours; The Chilean context.
Since as far as I know all of us in this class are Chilean, I thought it could be interesting to refer to our context and culture. Last week we celebrated the “national holiday” and it seemed like everyone felt more Chilean than ever before.

In your opinion, what makes Chileans, Chilean?
Which customs are the most deeply rooted?
Which elements of the Chilean culture do you identify with the most?
Which elements of our culture should be celebrated?

Include any other information you find relevant.

Write 220 words and  a minimum of 3 comments on your classmates' blogs.
