As published on September the 5,   the marking for the blog activities is.

When you come to class and do the post and comments in class, you get 2 points.

When you don’t come to class and do the post and comments within 48 hours, you get 1 point.

No post, no points.

The final mark for the blog consists of two marks.

1 mark for “coming to class and do the blog post and comments in class”

1 mark for 3 particular blog posts. These will be selected and marked considering linguistic aspects.
I've had lots of pets in my time. The pet I have at the moment is Kat. We got him from a neighbour who found him as a kitten. He had been abandoned and attacked by dog, and had a bad paw, one closed eye and a crooked tail.
At the time we lived in a flat so I was reluctant to bring an animal to live there but I felt sorry for the poor thing. So, Kat has been with us for about 13 or 14 years now. He's a bit of an oddball but I think it's because he doesn't realise that he's a cat. He has no social skills when mixing with other animals and spends a lot of time meowing to us to do things for him (usually to give him food but also to open the door or close the door or give him water or let him sit on our lap). He used to do tricks when he was younger but nowadays he spends most of his time sleeping and eating. For a long time he didn't leave the flat because he had a fear of going outside. However, since we moved home about 8 years ago he's been going out most evenings for a couple of hours. He chases other cats and can be quite sneaky (he hides behind a bush and ambushes other cats from the neighbourhood!). Kat loves eating, rolling in the dirt, and getting under my feet. He's a bit of a strange animal and I think he thinks I'm his mum!

Green

I don’t think I am a particularly “Green person”, I think I am  “greener” than the average Chilean person, but not as Eco- friendly as I could be.
This idea of being “green” is so relative. I think it is very difficult to be all “planet friendly” when the whole system invites you to buy and dispose.  I love visiting new places, and basically this is what I spend most of my savings on. Do I pay to try to reduce my carbon footprint? So far, not a bean L Shame on me!!!

On the upside, I try to use the bike as often as possible. I also take bottles and cartons of milk to the supermarket as often as possible. But I normally go by car!!! I separate the rubbish and feed my worms with the degradable stuff. The other thing I do is I put a bottle in my toilet cistern so I use less water when I flush the loo.  When I go to the supermarket or the vegetable market I take my own bags. I make my own washing detergent which pollutes the water and my skin a lot less than Ariel or any of those. I make my shampoo and sometimes soap but it is not easy to find the time. I reuse and recycle as much as I remember. I have learnt from lovely people wanting to share and also out of my own curiosity, I suppose.
There is no way for things to improve in this aspect without education. I think the boroughs i.e. (Estación central, Recoleta, Ñuñoa, etc.) and the national  School programmes need to include the topics of recycling reusing and reducing so people become aware. One needs to do these things at home for children to become aware. I would like to join an organization or create an NGO one day.

What about you?

- Where do people learn about enviromentally friendly practices?
- Have you incorporated recycling into your habits? Describe
- Do you use a bike or your legs instead of a car?
- Have you joined or supported any eco-organisations? Why/Why not?
- What else have you done /would you like to do?
- What have you done to reduce your carbon footprint?
- What's missing in our society/Santiago regarding this issue?

This week's post

Hi everyone:
I'd like to talk about a good friend of mine. I met Ivonne in around 2000 because she was a my sister's classmate at Uni and they were pretty close. Later, my sister left to live in the UK and I didn't see Ivonne again until around 2005. I am not sure how we got in touch again but I am glad we did because I feel she is really nice company. I like talking to her about anything because most of the time she has wise words to tell me. Plus, she has a great sense of humor and is a very active woman.
I'd say we have various things in common. We like music and arts in general, and we share our sense of humor & love for animals. We don't eat them! I really enjoy our evening meetings to have a drink and play music. Ivonne plays the guitar magnificently and can pick like few people I have met. But she is very humble about her guitar playing and that is nice too.
She is a lawyer, but one of the smart ones who will always tell you about the details of the legal actions you take. Furthermore, most of the time she knows what is going on with the laws they will pass or if they already passed them and how they affect us. It is a pity we only see each other 3 or 4 times a year.

Write about a good friend of yours:
Say:
Who it is,
How you met,
What things you have in common,
How often you see your friend.
Put up a picture if you like (Mine is pending!)
Write at least 230 words. Leave a comment on 4 classmates' blogs .

language transformed humanity

Hello everyone:
Have a listen to this talk on how language became what it is and how it has evolved and what Mr. Pagel sees as the inevitable future.
Use the headphones.

Think about what Pagel says and develop your thoughts on this topic. Write what you feel about what he says on the origin of language, on how it has evolved, on what he foresees as the future of language.

How do you feel about your language? How do you relate it to your identity as an individual and as a Chilean?

Write a minimum of 240 words and 4 comments in total.
